When the calendar turns to September, prime cycling season arrives here in South Eastern Ontario. The days are usually a bit cooler and there is less humidity than earlier in the summer, making conditions just right to hop on your bike and enjoy a ride.
Lennox & Addington offers some of the best road cycling routes in the province. Our County roads are in terrific shape, and many are equipped with extended paved shoulders that provide added safety to riders.
L&A’s County Trails cycling network has been in place for 15 years now and has been enjoyed by thousands of riders since debuting in 2005. The network encompasses 12 looping routes totalling nearly 600-kilometres of paved roadway that stretch from the shore of Lake Ontario north to Denbigh. Each loop offers a different look, with varying lengths and degrees of difficulty.
More details about each of the loops is available here. You can request detailed itineraries that include turn-by-turn directions and ideas about fun to things to do when visiting in the area.
In addition to our road cycling network, we’re excited to announce that L&A now offers a destination for mountain bike riders. The L&A Forest Trails were constructed in spring/summer 2019, and are now open in Flinton. Lennox & Addington County manages 470 hectares (1,161 acres) of forest on five parcels of land in the Township of Addington Highlands. The trails within a 51 hectare (127 acre) section is known as The Pines.
The trails were created with the desires of mountain bike riders in mind. To date, there are 6 kilometres of well-marked logging roads and single-track trails designed with bermed curves and elevations that incorporate the natural terrain of the forest. More trails are planned for construction in future years.
