Redefining Rural

The charming Town of Greater Napanee is bustling with original shops and first-rate restaurants in its downtown core. The surrounding area is full of interesting hamlets, many offering experiences for visitors that are fun and original. Below are some of the amazing things you’ll find to do in Greater Napanee.

Museums & Historic Locations

Allan Macpherson was one of the area’s most civic-minded and politically active entrepreneurs of the early 1800’s. His home, built in 1826 is situated on the banks of the Napanee River. Today you can tour this gentry-inspired home that has been restored to its original splendor. Learn more about the home here.

Location: 180 Elizabeth Street, Napanee

With exhibits and information that ranges from prehistoric times to present day, this interactive museum is a treat for the entire family. Learn about how this area was settled, take part in an event or activity or just enjoy beautiful space that was once a jailhouse. There’s plenty to see and do, learn more here.

Location: 97 Thomas Street East, Napanee

Erected between 1884-88, this church was built as a memorial to the Loyalists of the area.

Location: 10419 Loyalist Parkway, Adolphustown

This is the oldest Methodist building in Canada and the second oldest church in Ontario! Although today it’s no longer used for religious services, this tiny church is open to the public as a museum. Come take a look!

Location: 2365 South Shore Road, Adolphustown

The United Empire Loyalist Heritage Centre & Park marks the very first location that United Empire Loyalists arrived at in June of 1784. Today it’s a mixture of history, camping and family fun all in one location. See the house, enjoy the children’s play structures or even go for a swim.

The Loyalist Parkway’s eastern entrance in Loyalist Township is marked by impressive gates that Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II officially dedicated in 1984. Once on the parkway, you’ll travel through Greater Napanee on what has been affectionately coined as a route through history. It was in this area that The Loyalists settled, persevered and became major participants in the formation of Ontario. Today this scenic drive takes you though many of our communities and an array of interesting businesses, parks and parkettes.

Parks, Trails and Outdoor Adventures

Enjoy a beautiful walk alongside the Springside Parks Falls and the Napanee River. Picnic and watch wildlife alongside a fully accessible path that’ll take you all the way to Conservation Park. Watch trains pass along the trestle bridge and take in the gently cascading waterfall. The Napanee River is one of only two places in the world that experiences “seiche”, tidal changes of anywhere from 6-16 inches due to winds that blow southwest along Lake Ontario. Learn more here.

Park at Springside: 8460 County Road 2, Napanee

Just west of Roblin, Ontario, you’ll find the most amazing 4.8km path. As you wander the path you’ll see and abundance of significant wetlands, sweeping views, and thriving wildlife. This is a great spot for birding, hiking and picnicking. Learn more about this nature reserve here.

Take your canoe or kayak and head to the Napanee River or Salmon River. There are 3 peaceful routes to choose from in Greater Napanee and many more across the County.

Established in 1897, the Napanee Golf & Country Club is the second oldest 9-hole course in Canada. With rolling hills, mature trees and interesting water hazards you’ll love this 9-hole course.

The L&A County Trails can be found all through Lennox and Addington which includes Greater Napanee. Many of our routes have wide, paved shoulders which make for a more comfortable and safe experience. To find a on-road looping cycling route near you visit here.

You’ll love the view, the atmosphere, the food & the drink while aboard The Norman Paul, a fully-licensed pontoon boat that tours the Napanee River from downtown to the entrance of Mohawk Bay.

Visit a Farm, Apiary or Orchard

This small apiary and wood-fired ‘breadery’ offers fresh hone, artisan bread and more. Come see what the honey bees are cooking up at The Hive & Hearthstone.

Location: 225 South Shore Road, Greater Napanee

Stop in and meet the alpacas at this cozy little farm. You’ll also be greeted by some friendly chickens, pigs, goats and a peacock! 

Location: 7326 County Road 9, Napanee

Crisp and delicious apples are in your future when you stop into Spring Meadow Orchard. They have a variety of apples to choose from as well as a pick your own pumpkin patch in the fall.

Come explore the flower farm at Wynn Farms in the summer, and pick-your-own apples at the orchard in the fall! This amazing agritourism destination also creates an amazing themed corn maze each year, and offer some moonlight maze walks as well.

Wineries and Breweries

This brewery is all about turning your passion into reality and the result is some pretty spectacular beers. Stop in and see how Geordan Saunders obsession with brewing has produced some amazing beer.

This beautiful 10-acre estate boasts not only a beautiful vineyard but scenic waterfront views. Sample their wines and cider, wander the vineyard and even stay for a bite to eat at Nonna’s Pizzeria which is onsite at Bergeron Estate Winery.

33 Vines offers tours, tasting sessions, events and private parties. Visit this little piece of paradise to try one of their Chardonnay, Riesling, Cabernet Franc, Pinot Noir and Merlot.

The Salmon River passes through Roblin, and anglers and paddlers take full advantage of the boat launch right at Highway 41. Just a few kilometres west of the hamlet is Menzel Centennial Provincial Wildlife Reserve. Located on Roblin Road, this natural location is popular with hikers that walk the 4 km trail to Mud Lake.
