Sand Beach Wetlands Conservation Area is 54 acres, of wetlands with great ecological significance (acquired and stewarded by Loyalist Township to protect its valued natural heritage) located at the southwest end of Amherst Island. The area’s woodland and dune habitats are a provincially significant wetland as they are unique breeding grounds for species at risk. It’s also part of the larger Amherst Island habitat recognized as a Globally Significant Important Bird Area.

Access to the beach is sign-posted in two areas – from the parking area and across from the viewing platform. Sand Beach is an unsupervised public beach so please do not swim alone. Also, it is important to refrain from crossing the dunes or vegetation anywhere other than the two access paths – this is to preserve the dunes and aid their regeneration.
