Cloyne Pioneer Museum

A great place to learn about this area

See 1,000 artifacts, including books, clothing, photos and documents, that illustrate how Lennox and Addington County (and the Cloyne area) evolved from its lumber industry beginnings, through the ups and downs of the mining booms, to the long-held importance of tourism.

Their collections, both in artifacts and documents, reflect the history of this area beginning from settlement times in the 1850s, with emphasis on such themes as settlement and pioneer life, mining, logging, tourism and the building of the Addington Road. With its unique development across county lines, its economic challenges after the departure of the timbering businesses and its determination to remain viable, this community has much fascinating history to impart. In recent years, the addition of an Archives has meant that there is a place to store family histories, photos, land deeds and other paper documents.

  • The Archives are a great starting point for researchers
  • You can purchase books and DVD’s about the history of the area on site
  • Tons of local history, all displayed and showcased well
  • Their Flickr site is a depository for historical documents, photos and videos numbering in the 100’s of items
