March Break @ the Museum: Irish Storytelling with Gaeltacht an Oileáin Úir

March 13, 2023
Cost: FREE
Type of Event: For Families

10:30am

Bígí linn! – Join with us for a celebration of the deep traditions of the Irish language and Gaelic culture. Meet with Irish speakers to learn who we Gaels are as a people. Enjoy the Gaelic art of storytelling, play simple language games, and learn a song in Irish. Our activities aim to help you to leave with a phrase or two in Irish and a deeper understanding of our rich culture. Experience first-hand why we say “is fearr Gaeilge bhriste ná Béarla cliste” (Broken Irish is better than clever English).

Organization Bio

Gaeltacht an Oileáin Úir, located in Tamworth Ontario, is the only officially recognized Irish (Gaelic) speaking community outside of Ireland. ‘Gaeltacht’ areas are those in which Irish is spoken as a community language, and where the rich and ancient Gaelic traditions are very much alive and thriving. We run immersive language and cultural courses throughout the year to reintroduce and maintain the language and culture as an active part of daily life in the diaspora.

– For ages 4+
– FREE!
– No pre-registration required.
