Dry stone wall builders from Canada, the United States and Ireland will converge on Amherst Island from September 23rd-25th for the 2022 Dry Stone Canada International Symposium. They will be resurrecting a century-old stone wall at McMullen House as part of their activities during the weekend.

40-60 members of Dry Stone Canada are expected to attend to restore a heritage dry stone wall at McMullen Farm, which was established on the the island in 1842. The public is welcome to attend and watch the restoration project as it unfolds.

Amherst Island has the world’s largest known concentration of centuries old Irish dry stone walls outside of Ireland. You can see many of the walls from the roadside. You can pick up a copy of Amherst Island’s Dry Stone Walls Self-Guided Tour Booklet at The Neilson Store Museum & Cultural Centre and learn more about the walls found on the island.
